Hi Giovanna:
Loved your class and have done several different braid trials. I made the 3×3 twill into a double layer cuff…I fused the 2 pieces together which wasn’t easy.. the fusing isn’t perfect but I think with more opportunity to experiment, it can be improved.

Thank you Masumi. I have checked with Makiko and she confirmed it was a zig zag braid.

Hi Makiko:
I watched your video on the exhibition …..it was wonderful! I feel so lucky to have been able to see it, even if virtually.
The part about Modern Kumihimo was beautiful and inspirational. I especially loved the image you used as the cover page of the Modern Kumihimo section…I believe you called it a zig zag circular spiral. I am…[Read more]

Hi Masumi:
I have now looked at both of the books and there are a lot of great braids in both books. I have watched Makiko’s video on the Exhibition that she had worked on in Japan. In the section about Modern Kumihimo, the very 1st image is of a Zig Zag circular spiral braid…I looked in both of the books you referred me to and could not find…[Read more]

Hi Masumi:
Thank you for your offer but I have arranged to borrow both books from a friend and then will decide which one(s) to buy for myself.
I will post photos once my trial braids are finished.

Thank you Masumi…I do not have either of the books so if you can send a photo of the set up, I would appreciate it. Do those books also show how to end a braid (if you are not using with a jewelry clasp)? If so, I will definitely buy one!

Thank you for the class..I am really enjoying working on the winding anda braid. I had never worked on the octoplate before and wasn’t sure whether for the set up that the threads should be tied together in the center with a tight knot and if they had to be placed directly across from each other or placed randomly in the slots.
My braid seems…[Read more]

I used cotton and cotton blends with 1.5 mm bronze leather and 3mmX5mm czech glass picasso rondelles. The beaded portion using 30 beads per tama came out to 7.75″.

I really enjoyed working on this sample braid. Thank you Rosalie for the information on using Crochet Cotton 10…this was done using DMC Perle 8 ..I used 12 ends instead of 16 but the thickness is fine.

I used DMC Pearl Cotton 8….I was able to figure out how to do the edo yatsu switching but found it awkward when moving the inside threads and then replacing them. Hard to tell from the video which fingers Makiko is using to move the outside thread and which are moving the inside threads so that it can all be done in a smooth, continuous…[Read more]

I am using cotton to practice these braids and have found Rosalie’s “silk standard” chart very helpful.
Under Crochet and Embroidery threads, it lists Crochet Cotton 70 and Crochet Cotton 30…wondering Rosalie whether you have looked at Crochet Cotton 10 and how many ends would be needed for 8 tama and 16 tama.
According to this website
Crochet cotton 10 has 38 wraps per inch … so it would be comparable in size to a 3/2 perle cotton. I’d use 5 strands for an 8-tama braid for a total of 40 strands and 2-3 strands for a 16-tama braid for a total of 32 to 48 strands.
