Bob discovered kumihimo in early 2012 in a beaded braid class with Adrienne Gaskell. Out of that class grew an interest in fiber braids, which led to a course of study with instructors Makiko Tada, Roderick Owen and Jacqui Carey. Bob works on the marudai and karakumidai, as well as the square braiding plate. His main interest is in the technical aspects of braiding, and incorporating unusual techniques and materials into his braids. He has developed a strong interest in Andean braids, and has been studying hand-braiding techniques to explore the possibilities of that technique. Bob has taught classes for the South Florida Jewelry Arts Guild in Miami, at Bead & Button 2017, for Beadies Beadwork in Rocky River, Ohio, and for the Cleveland Area Kumihimo Study Group. Bob was invited back to Bead & Button 2018, where he will present five kumihimo classes.
