Kumihimo Marudai Fundamentals

with Adrienne Gaskell

This in-depth two-day class will teach students the basics and beyond of using a marudai for kumihimo braids. Students will make beaded braids, both the 2-Drop Kongoh (round braid) and Continuous Beaded Braid (fully beaded) and will also use traditional Japanese fibers to make multiple braid structures. Students will learn how to determine the appropriate threads for different types of beads, incorporate focal beads, braid around an inner core, and simplified bead spinner techniques. Also, learn kumihimo essentials for proper handling of traditional multi-fiber kumihimo threads.
