I’d say I still qualify as a beginner, but here’s my practice braid and second try at the chained shells. For my practice braid, I used some sort of chenille style mystery yarn that was fairly thick, and for my second braid I used a size 10 mercerized crochet type thread that I had on hand. I noticed on my practice braid that the yarn was so thick that you could barely see the shells in it. Also, I started doing the pattern without doing any tightening on the braid, and that caused the back side to have bumps, and no shell indentation at all on the front. I made sure to tighten each time on my second braid, and the results were better.

Patty,
It looks beautiful! Did you add beads? And you did it on the disk!
Congrats!

I absolutely love this braid! The rhythm of braiding on the marudai was easy to memorize.
The braid in my photo has no clasp yet as I have not decided whether to do a double strand necklace or a single strand necklace and bracelet.
Thank you, Makiko Tada and Ikuyo Nishi for this wonderful braid!

Thank you, Beth. I also have not decided on what the best ending for this braid will be. A beach feel clasp sounds perfect. Let me know if you find something special.

Finally finished a 3D chained shell using variegated tencel. I loved making this braid! Thank you Makiko and Ikuyo.
